3rd July 2019 marks plastic bag free day.

The UK law requires large shops in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to charge 5p for all single-use plastic carrier bags. Charging started on 1st October 2011 in Wales, 8th April 2013 in Northern Ireland, 20th October 2014 in Scotland and on 5 October 2015 in England.

We at ALKIMI believe in reducing plastic waste, especially the use of single-use plastic carrier bags, and the litter they can cause, by encouraging people to not take single use bags, and if they have to, to reuse their bags. We understand it’s not always practical to not take a single use plastic bag, especially when we forgot to bring our shopping bags out with us when not intending to go shopping. However we strongly encourage people when taking single use bags to ensure the bag is at least re-used once after this. A useful way to re-use these plastic bags is to use them when you shop again, and when the handles then break to then use them as bin liners in your bin at home.
